Database and Grants Coordinator

First Shift seeks a Database and Grants Coordinator to fulfill the following duties:

  • Maintain records required for compliance with grant award commitments.

  • Monitor staff timekeeping.

  • Generate reports from client database.

  • Prepare and submit grant reports in a timely manner.

  • Work with the executive director to draft grant applications and compile materials to submit with grant applications.

  • Track grant submission deadlines.

  • Collaborate with program staff to improve outcomes measurement.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Our ideal candidate has development and grant reporting experience. The Database and Grants Coordinator must 1) be organized and detail-oriented; 2) have the ability to prioritize and plan work activities effectively to meet deadlines; 3) be comfortable communicating with staff to ensure timely submission of grant reports; 4) demonstrate professionalism to represent the organization in direct communication with foundation funders; 5) have technical experience working with complex spreadsheets and databases; and 6) be willing and able to both work independently and follow instructions.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $60-65K/year, depending on experience. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, a retirement plan, and a generous paid leave allowance. First Shift’s normal operating hours are 9-5, M-F. Employees work on a hybrid remote basis and are afforded some flexibility to establish work hours that enable them to meet family commitments as needed. D.C. Outreach Coordinator

First Shift seeks a D.C. Outreach Coordinator to provide Know Your Rights education and materials to D.C. residents and workers and to increase public awareness of our services.

Job Duties:

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community-based organizations in D.C. that serve low-income families;

  • Coordinate and deliver Know Your Rights presentations;

  • Develop online and print resources;

  • Represent the organization at community outreach events; and

  • Maintain records for evaluation and grant reporting purposes.

Qualifications:

Eligible candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

This position requires Spanish language skills. Our ideal candidate has demonstrated empathy for First Shift’s working caregiver population and experience working directly with people in difficult situations. The Outreach Coordinator must 1) be comfortable with public speaking and developing new relationships with community partners; 2) be detail oriented; 3) demonstrate maturity in discussing sensitive topics such as serious health conditions, pregnancy, and breastfeeding; 4) have strong interpersonal communications skills; and 5) be creative and willing to take initiative.

First Shift Justice Project is a D.C.-based  nonprofit organization that empowers workers in low-wage jobs to exercise their rights related to caregiving and parenting. First Shift provides counseling, coaching, and representation to pregnant women, working parents, and caregivers on the issues of pregnancy and family responsibilities discrimination; pregnancy and breastfeeding accommodations; family and medical leave; and D.C. paid family leave benefits.

A First Shift Board Member is responsible for

• determining the mission and purpose of the organization

• evaluating the performance ofthe executive director

• strategic and organizational planning

• ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management

• fundraising and resource development

• raising awareness about and promoting the organization’s work

Each individual board member is expected to

• participate in quarterly board meetings

• understand the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs

• review the organization’s financial statements

• serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization

• identify and secure the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to

advance its mission

• give a meaningful personal financial donation or comparable fundraising efforts

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

• demonstrated commitment to First Shift’s mission

• leadership skills and an interest in taking the lead in board activities and committees

• ability to collaborate with other board members

• time to commit to board service

This is a volunteer opportunity. First Shift Board Members make a three-year commitment.
