Become a VOLUNTEER

A critical aspect of First Shift’s approach to providing services is outreach to workers through community events and organizations where they are already receiving services. If you are interested in volunteering with us, please contact us!

Outreach event Volunteering:

We are looking for people who:

  • Are at least 18 years old

  • Live in the DMV

  • Have access to some form of transportation (metro, bike, car, etc.)

  • Can volunteer about once a month

  • Are willing to engage individuals who approach our outreach table

  • Are comfortable doing community outreach at community health resource fairs, neighborhood festivals, and other public events

legal Volunteering:

We are looking for people who:

  • Are either

    • A barred lawyer in any country

    • A law student who has begun classes

  • Live in the DMV

  • Have access to a computer that can be used for presentations

  • Have access to some form of transportation (metro, bike, car, etc.)

  • Can volunteer about once a quarter

  • Are looking for a longer-term volunteer opportunity

  • Are comfortable with doing presentations with minimal supervision

    • You will be given training on legal information to make sure you are informed and comfortable!

  • Can distill complicated legal topics into understandable information for workers 

  • Are willing to engage individuals who come to KYR presentations
